NK KANNALAN KENNADY,

KIRTI CHAKRA (POSTHUMOUS)

25 MADRAS was deployed on Line of Control in Keran Sector (J&K) as Gugaldhar Bn under 268 Infantry Brigade of 28 Infantry Division. The Bn with the coins of B Coy, A Coy & Bn HQ launched a maj Op from 11-15 Apr 1993 based on specific intelligence. The coins encountered by firing from a large gp of militants at Naidkhuragali. In the fierce gun fight of 11 Apr 1993, Nk Kannalan Kennady of B Coy was hit by a hail of bullets, displayed indomitable courage, killed two militants in a face to face gun battle and later succumbed to his injuries. This act of sublime bravery gave impetus to the overall ops and in the next 72 hrs of continuous ops, the coins showed great grit, determination, courage and in a very daring act killed 14 militants & recovered huge arms, amn and other eqpt.

Nk Kannalan Kennady was awarded with KIRTI CHAKRA posthumously for making the supreme sacrifice in a daring act of sheer courage & steadfast soldiering in defense of our great nation.
